As a professional, any work I do will be in your best interest and I have to disclose conflicts of interest.
Extent of work
However, the extent of my actions are limited by what you are willing to pay me for.
To be informed of missed opportunities and non-critical information, choose any service level above standard.
Lastly, if you want to also go for low return opportunities where the expected value is not far above cost, let me know.
Honest pricing and service
In no circumstance do I willfully represent services that are normally offered by the majority of tax preparation services as “over and above (above the diligent service level)” and charge extra for them. I only charge extra for exceptional service that you are unlikely to obtain elsewhere without more cost.
I also do not willfully exaggerate the benefits of added work or recommend costs that I do not believe are in your best interest.
Different pricing models
Cost basis (Industry Default): Charged based on cost.
Advantage: Cheaper and you own 100% of the upside net of a flat fee. Disadvantage: You have to trust the accountant that it is in your best interest and you bear the risk yourself)
Value basis:
No charge if no positive result is achieved. Higher charge if a benefit is achieved.
Advantage: added cost can never exceed added benefit.
Disadvantage: more expensive because the competition for this kind of pricing is low)
Consent Basis: I can ask you. It only works for very large items in the completionist service level.
Advantage: Helps get to learn and match your preferences better if you are a new client.
Disadvantages: The very act of asking adds cost and is impractical for smaller items. Also, not all information
